Good Friday is a day of mourning, the greatest day ever. Christ enters into death. As a consequence of sin, the hold of death on all our human lives extends to the head of humanity, the Son of God made man.
The Cross of Jesus Christ, therefore, is the cross of Christians. Yesterday, already, we sang it: "For us, all our glory is in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ." Today, the Church repeats it and presents the Cross itself for our adoration: "This is the wood of the cross, which brought the salvation of the world."
In this way, Good Friday, which remains a day of mourning, is also the day that gave hope back to men; it leads to the joy of the Resurrection.
